FRANKLIN—Up to an inch of snow is expected between Thursday night and Friday morning in Western Tidewater, according to meteorologist John Billet with the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

Billet expects the snow to accumulate in the grassy areas, but not on the roads because they will be wet.

The chance of snow will increase after midnight when the temperatures are expected to drop to 32.

“They will be pretty much close to the freezing mark, which will allow the atmosphere to be cold enough for the rain to turn into snow,” he said.

The chance of precipitation is 70 to 80 percent overnight Thursday.

Temperatures will begin to warm above freezing by 7 or 8 a.m. Friday, while the chance of precipitation will decrease.
