Helen Hunt Holoman

Helen Hunt Holoman, 80, of 37101 General Mahone Boulevard, Ivor, Va., died Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Va.

She was a native of Granville County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Percy Hunt and Rachel Allen Hunt.

She received a B.S. Degree from Shaw University and a M.Ed. Degree from Virginia State University. She retired from Franklin City Public Schools where she had various positions as a mathematics teacher, guidance counselor and taught GED and Adult Education classes.

She was a member of Gilfield Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Ministry, was the former Sunday School Superintendent and former Youth Church Coordinator.

Other memberships included being a member of Antioch Franklin Southampton No. 72 Order of Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliation, past President of the Young Farmers Club, past Worthy Matron of the Rose of Sharon Chapter No. 141 Order of Eastern Star, former member of the Franklin/Southampton United Way Citizens Review Committee, the Franklin/Southampton American Cancer Relay for Life Society, the James L. Camp Jr. YMCA Black Achievers Steering Committee, Dozoretz National Institute for Minorities in Applied Sciences Parents Association, Ivor Voters League and a 4-H Leader in the Ivor/Zuni community.

Survivors include her husband, William S. Holoman Jr.; daughter, Sherita Holoman of Richmond, Va.; son, Daryl Holoman (Tracey) of Silver Spring, Md.; stepdaughter, Marvar Bowman (Stanford) of Houston, Texas; stepson, Allen Holoman of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Tyla Holoman of Silver Spring, Md., Isaiah Holoman of Richmond, Va., and Daria Holoman of Silver Spring, Md.; sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Gay of Wakefield, Va., and Verna L. Holoman of Chapel Hill, N.C.; brother-in-law, James Holoman (Evelyn) of Hampton, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; adopted family, descendants of the late James and Ruth Lane of Ivor, Va.; and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Gilfield Baptist Church, 9040 Doles Road, Ivor, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Ricks, Pastor.

A wake will be Friday, January 18, 2013, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Gilfield Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Synama Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Oxford, N.C., on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at 37101 General Mahone Blvd., Ivor, Va.
