Dennis L. Vinson

Deacon Dennis L. Vinson of Hogart Street, Franklin, Va., passed January 15, 2013, while resting peacefully in his home.

On May 26, 1933, he was born to Vernon and Lilly Ann Cooper Vinson in Como, N.C.

Dennis was a member of Millneck Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Senior Choir Member.

He was a graduate of Hayden High School.

Upon completing high school, he attended Saint Paul’s College.

Dennis served his country in the United States Army.

He retired from QuickTran as a supervisor after 20 years and in 1993, he retired from the Naval Supply Center as a supervisor after 35 years of service.

He was a member of the Franklin Community Male Chorus.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Vinson; and three brothers, John, Vernon and Bobby.

He is survived by one son, Therome Spivey Sr. (Blanche); a devoted companion, Shirley Aekins; one stepdaughter, Cecilia Carson; four grandchildren, Sean Spivey, Kelly G. Spivey, Romeľ Spivey and Therome Spivey Jr.; six stepgrandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and two aunts, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

A homegoing service will be held at noon on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Millneck Baptist Church, 123 Millneck Road, Como, N.C., with the pastor, Reverend Melvin Wilson, delivering the eulogy.

The interment is in the church cemetery.
