Big fourth quarter leads to Franklin win

FRANKLIN—Franklin outscored Windsor 23-11 in the fourth quarter for a 53-45 win over Windsor during a Tuesday Tri-Rivers District game at home.

“It was not a pretty game” said Bronco Coach Danny Dillon. “This is the youngest team that I have had since I have been at Franklin High School, and they had many turnovers and missed shots.”
“We let one slip away,” added Dukes Coach Brandon Bossick. “Windsor led most of the game, however, turnovers and missed assignments led to our defeat. The young men are working hard, but we need to finish.”
Windsor had the height advantage over Franklin, who led 26-24 at the half. In the third quarter, the Broncos went ice cold, and the Dukes outscored them 10-4 to take a 34-30 lead going into the final quarter.
The turning point occurred with about 4 minutes remaining in the game. Bronco Quentin Lowe connected on a three-point basket to tie the score at 39-all. From that point the momentum changed for Franklin, which held a 47-39 lead with 3:04 remaining in the game.
Franklin then slowed down the game and was up 49-41 with 1:55 left. Windsor, forced to foul, watched as the Broncos dropped in 6 of 13 shots from the free-throw line.
Franklin was led by Corey Porter with 14 points and Marcus Stephens added 12.
Windsor’s Malcom Green led the Dukes with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Donovan Cosbert had 13 points and four steals.
At 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, the Dukes will play Surry and the Broncos will play Sussex. Both are road games.
