She was born October 17, 1921, in Southampton, Va., the daughter of the late Emma Bell Griffin Minshew and Alexander Pierce Minshew.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Ellsworth Montague Jr.; brother, Alexander Pierce Minshew Jr. and his wife, Jenelle Chastain Minshew; sister, Katherine Elizabeth Minshew; and nephew, Robert Alexander Minshew.

She is survived by her two nieces, Gwen Minshew and Judith Minshew of Tennessee.

Her family was the center of her strength. She had a long career that was dedicated to serving others and was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond.

Words cannot express her family’s sense of gratitude for her longtime friend and dear caregiver, Karen Jordan, and her neighbors who lovingly cared for her, as a village.
