Woman allegedly sexually assaulted while walking home from church

FRANKLIN—A 55-year-old woman walking home from church at 2 a.m. New Year’s Day was sexually assaulted in the area of Armory Drive and Gardner Street, Franklin police said.

The victim told police a black male allegedly attempted to hold her up at gunpoint. She told him she had no money, and he forced her behind a home where he sexually assaulted her, police said. After the alleged attack, the suspect ran.

The man was wearing light-colored pants and a plaid shirt, or possibly a plaid jacket with red in the plaid pattern.
