Betty Johnson Alphin

Betty Johnson Alphin, 78, of Windsor, Va., passed away on December 26, 2012.

A native of Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Kitchen Johnson Sr. and Mary Gwaltney Johnson.

She was also predeceased by her husband of 42 years, G. Thomas Alphin Sr. and a brother, Bruce K. Johnson Jr.

She was a member of Windsor Christian Church for 64 years where she served on the Finance Committee, Board of Deacons and was Treasurer of the Women’s Fellowship.

Her community activities included member and secretary of the Isle of Wight Industrial Authority (representing the Windsor District), member and former treasurer of the Woman’s Club of Windsor, helped organize the first Junior Woman’s Club of Windsor and served as its first president.

Betty was employed by Farmers Bank for 31 years where she served as a director, bookeeper, assistant cashier, assistant vice-president, vice-president and senior vice president.

She was the co-owner of Walters Grain and Supply, the Commonwealth Gin, and Super Suds Car Wash and Laundromat, and also a former member and served on the finance committee of the Windsor Town Council.

Betty is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law G. Thomas Alphin Jr. (Pam) and Leonard “Len” B. Alphin Sr. (Jane), all of Windsor; four grandchildren, Christopher Thomas Alphin Sr. (Lauren), Kerri Alphin Bailey (Jason), Amber Leigh Alphin and Leonard Bruce Alphin Jr.; two great-grandchildren,Thomas and Hudson; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Stan Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Windsor Christian Church with Rev. Chuck Wilman, Rev. Basil Ballard and Rev. Frederick K. Poorbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at the Windsor Cemetery.

Friends may join the family on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parr Funeral Home for visitation and other times at her residence.
