SA boys defeat Halifax

COURTLAND—The Southampton Academy boys’ basketball team defeated Halifax Academy 75-42 in the second game of the annual Battle of the Border Tournament on Friday.
Southampton was 1-1 in the tournament, which did not name a winner. Other teams playing included Brunswick Academy and Ridgecroft School.
“We played our best game of the year,” said SA Coach Jim Tribbett. “It’s not about records, it’s about how you want to play and playing together. That is what we are trying do on a more consistent basis.”
The Raiders, who improved to 4-4, were led by junior Cam Hines with 23 points; junior Tonee Hill added 21 and junior Johnny Tribbett made 19 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Sophomore Matt Rose led in rebounds with 10.
The team had 12, three-pointers with five from Tribbett.
“Those threes gave us a nice cushion and helped us get into a nice rhythm,” Jim Tribbett said.
In tournament action from Thursday, SA lost 63-54 to Ridgecroft.
“If we could have taken away the second half, we would have been fine,” said Tribbett.
SA led at halftime 31-24.
Southampton will play at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Brunswick Academy.
