HUNTERDALE—Ten members of Hunterdale Christian Church on Thursday night reenacted a Biblical scene dating back about 2,000 years.

This familiar holiday tradition commemorates Christians’ celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

It’s been five years since the church recreated the drama, said the Rev. Randall Wright.

“It was fun,” said Wright, who was a Wise Man. “We had a great time. We’re going to make a new tradition. There was a question about the wisdom of that.”

Wright said there were quite a few cars that slowed down to look and some walked up for a closer view.

“We would have had more, but for the rain,” he said.

Wright praised Connie Moore for helping everyone get dressed.

Moore, a church member for 40 years, said the real credit goes to Deacons Pitt and Mollie Blythe for organizing the nativity.

The church’s participation in the Franklin Christmas parade was Moore’s idea.

“I had the brainstorm last year,” she said. “We had a lot of costumes for other purposes.”

She wanted to have someone portraying the Virgin Mary riding a donkey, but one couldn’t be found.

“Pitt’s good at building things, and he made a little stable we put on a trailer. Three angels, wise men and shepherds followed behind,” said Moore.
