Recording artist and “X Factor” reality TV star David Correy will appear at the Cover 3 Foundation’s Childhood Hunger and Obesity Benefit at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at King’s Fork High School in Suffolk.

The Franklin-based non-profit, which provides meals to children throughout Hampton Roads, also expects local artist Andra’ Cross.

David was born in Brazil and adopted by an American family when he was a small child. His music represents a crossover sound that is a mix of hip-hop, rock and pop.

David attempts to inspire people to never give up on their dreams.

“I’m so excited to come to Virginia and share my talents to give back to the children, families and community in an effort to fight childhood hunger and obesity,” he said in a news release.

Andra’ is a rising artist in the hip-hop gospel music industry and has shared the stage with likes of Smokie Norful, Mary Mary, Marvin Sapp, Coko and Hezekiah Walker. Andra’ received the 2006 Los Angeles Black Music Award and a 2007 Stellar Award Nomination.

• Nansemond-Suffolk Academy band students who qualified for district band were seniors Christine Comer, third chair percussion; senior Jen Johnson, fourth chair bass clarinet; sophomore Maya Venkataraman, second chair flute; and eight-graders Hailey, 11th chair flute and Kelly Hogan, third chair baritone.

• Students in the Paul D. Camp Community College registered nursing program recently completed a clinical rotation in the skilled nursing unit at Lake Prince Woods retirement community in Suffolk.

Working with registered nurses at Lake Prince Woods and under the supervision of their instructor, registered nurse Ann Pinner, the students were assigned residents and administered patient care, passed medications and helped transport patients. Part of their time was spent in the therapy department observing.

“It’s a great experience for students to intermingle their classroom studies with hands-on experience with residents,” said registered nurse Aretha Stevenson, director of nursing at Lake Prince Woods.
