Southampton’s Johnson scores 24 in win over Franklin

COURTLAND—Southampton High School junior Brittany Johnson led all scorers with 24 points during the Lady Indians’ 54-43 non-conference win over rival Franklin on Wednesday.

Host Southampton led the Lady Broncos 9-6 at the end of the first quarter, 28-16 at the half and 43-35 going into the final quarter.

Junior Talisha Jenkins scored 14 for the Lady Indians and freshman Zakiyla Holden added 10.

Franklin seniors Breia Walloe and Janesha Hurdle scored their first double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds and 13 points and 12 rebounds, respectively. Freshman Jayla Cross added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Scoring three-pointers for the Lady Broncos were Cross and freshmen Latrina Cross.

Franklin committed 16 fouls to Southampton’s 14.

The Franklin junior varsity squad defeated Southampton 19-16.

Breyona Whitehead led all scorers with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Catherine Brown had 5 rebounds while Jazmine Jordan had 4 rebounds.

Breyona Knight led Southampton with 4 points.

In action from Monday, Southampton lost 54-35 to Northampton in a non-conference game. Johnson led with 13 points.
