FRANKLIN—The Duck Thru in Hunterdale opened on Dec. 12.

“Things are going really well,” said Manager Michelle Bradshaw. “Things are going so well we are already looking at hiring more people.”

The Duck Thru at 807 Hunterdale Road employs eight.

“We currently have an additional seven people helping from other stores, so we will be hiring new people very soon,” Bradshaw said.

Owner Jernigan Oil Co. in Ahoskie, N.C., constructed a new building for the convenience store, which is at the former site of David’s Market and Hunterdale Service Center. The latter closed in March 2011 after being part of the community for more than 50 years.

This is Jernigan’s 39th store. In Western Tidewater, there also are stores at 30001 Smith’s Ferry Road, Franklin, and 23141 Main St., Courtland. The rest are in North Carolina.

The Duck Thru offers a 5-cent discount on gas and fuels purchased with cash. The store also offers Champs Chicken and Hotstuff Pizza.

“Business has been great already,” said Deli Manager Darren Blunt. “I can’t get over how well things have been going thus far.”

The store is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
