Nguyen, Jones take top honors at DECA competition

CHESAPEAKE—Franklin High School DECA members Jason Nguyen and Nathan Jones took top honors during a recent District Leadership Conference in Chesapeake.

Nguyen took first in Principles of Business Management and Jones took first for Hotel and Lodging Management while competing against students from Suffolk, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight County. They will advance to the Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference on March 1-3 in Virginia Beach.

Taking second were Wawijah Jones in Hotel and Lodging Management, Grant Scarboro in Marketing Management, Shamar Ballard in Apparel and Accessories Marketing, LeAnna Leonard in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Alexis Rogers in Selling.

Third-place winners were Nora Hathan in Principles of Business Management, Trenton Artis in Selling and Drucilla Meriwether in Restaurant and Food Service Management.

Second-place winners can also compete if District 21 recruits 37 new members. Franklin DECA is recruiting both professional and alumni members. Memberships cost $14 and can be sent to Franklin High School DECA.
