COURTLAND—Southampton County supervisors on Monday awarded two contracts to a Richmond-area company to provide water and sewer services to Enviva Pellets Southampton and other potential developments at the Turner Tract Industrial Park.

Waco, Inc. was the low bidder for building a sewage pump station for $241,000. Engineers had estimated the project to cost $350,000. The high bid was $477,700.

Waco also was the low bidder for building a well house for $203,000. Engineers estimated the project would cost $250,000. The high bid was $255,000.

Enviva in July broke ground to develop a $91 million wood pellet plant at the industrial park along Rose Valley Road. The plant will create 72 jobs. Construction is expected to take 18 months to complete, with a startup planned for late 2013.

Based in Bethesda, Md., Enviva is the world’s largest producer of solid biomass fuels whose primary customer is Europe’s utility companies attempting to reduce their carbon footprint.
