Earl Birges Chappell

MURFREESBORO, N.C.—Mr. Earl Birges Chappell Jr., age 92, died at the Ahoskie House in Ahoskie on Thursday, December 13, 2012.
Mr. Chappell was a World War II veteran serving his nation with the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station following 32 years of service.
Following retirement from the air station, Mr. Chappell worked in real estate for a short period of time. He also worked in the jewelry business for a number of years and retired from Long Jewelers on Virginia Beach Boulevard in Virginia Beach, Va.
Mr. Chappell was a member of the Murfreesboro Baptist Church and loyal supporter of Chowan University.
Preceding him in death were his mother and father, Mabel Warren Chappell and Earl Birges Chappell Sr.; daughter, Constance C. Corifino; and brother, Edward W. Chappell.
Survivors are Earl B. Chappell III and his wife, Mary, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Helen C. Vinson of Murfreesboro, N.C.; and Frances C. Liverman and her husband Richard of Cofield, N.C. Also surviving are grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the Murfreesboro Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. Lee Canipe.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the memorial service.
