Edward Lee “Bubba” Cook

IVOR—Edward Lee “Bubba” Cook, 68, passed away December 5, 2012, at his home.

He retired from Smithfield Packing Co., was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, an avid golfer who was a member of the Suffolk Golf Association and Cypress Creek Senior Golf Club and was a member of Bent Barrel Hunt Club.

Edward Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Cook Sr. and Mary Virginia Saunders Cook; and brothers, Homer Cook Jr. and Clyde “Pete” Cook.

Edward Lee is survived by his wife, Nancy Strickland; daughters, Vickie C. Gwaltney and husband, Brian, Penny C. McKee and husband, Terry, and Kathy Stallings and husband, John; a step-daughter, Robin S. Phippins and husband, Benny; 12 grandchildren who include Brandon Laine Whisenant, and girlfriend, Katie Callow, and Ryan Chase Whisenant; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean C. Bradshaw and husband, J.J., and Grace “Shep” Rodgester; and a brother, Samuel “Nick” Cook and wife, Joan.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel 11414 General Mahone Highway, Wakefield, Va., 23888, at 2 p.m. and with Rev. Jim Jones officiating.

A visitation will be held one hour prior.

Burial will follow at Ivor Cemetery.
