Cross nets 20 points in overtime win

FRANKLIN—Franklin’s Jayla Cross netted 20 points and 11 rebounds to help the Lady Broncos defeat Southampton High School 61-59 in overtime on Wednesday.

“The Lady Broncos had a thrilling victory last night,” said Franklin Coach Mona Sumblin.

Adding to the home team’s winning efforts were Janesha Hurdle with16 points and 5 rebounds; Latrina Cross scored 9 points, and made 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Breia Walloe added 7 points and 10 rebounds.

Southampton’s Talisha Jenkins led all scorers with 32 points; DeMone Brickhouse added 13.

In junior varsity action, Southampton won 24-14.

Breyona Knight led the Lady Indians with 8 points.

Breyona Whitehead scored 10 points for Franklin and pulled in 6 rebounds.

Franklin will travel to Greensville for a 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, non-conference rematch.

Southampton will host Surry at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
