FRANKLIN—A Southampton County Circuit Court judge on Tuesday found a Franklin man guilty of selling puppies from the trunk of a car on a 110-degree day.
Found guilty of neglecting animals, Carl Demetrius Basnight, 26, of 376 N. College Drive, Apt. C, was fined $501 for the July 5 incident in the parking lot between Walmart and Arby’s.
A Franklin General District Court judge granted the city custody of the two, five-week-old Shih Tzus. The dogs were taken to the city animal shelter.
