SUFFOLK—Evelyn Everlina Lawrence , 100, peacefully and quietly departed her earthly life on November 14, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital.

She was born in Nansemond County on October 23, 1912, to the late Annie M. Lawrence and the late Herbert Lawrence.

Her only sibling, Charlie Lawrence, preceded her in death. Her only son, Rev. William A. Lawrence, also preceded her in death.

She attended Marshall School in Nansemond County and then later attended Lott Carey School, Norfolk, Va., where she was an honor student.

After her education, she worked as a housekeeper for various local families for many years in addition to raising her children as a single parent.

At a very early age, she joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, (Holland Station) Suffolk, Va., where she was a faithful member.

She was a very active member of the Pastor’s Aid Ministry and Willing Workers Ministry for over 50 years. She was one of the original members of the Women’s Chorus Ministry. She loved attending Sunday School (Class #3).

She was faithful in her attendance of over 70 years, until her health began to fail.

On her 100th birthday this year, she casted her absentee ballot for the 2012 Presidential Election.

She was a faithful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She leaves to mourn two daughters, Janice M. Lawrence Carter, Franklin, Va., and Ann P. Lawrence Ricks (Willard), Franklin, Va.; one grandson Bobby L. Carter Jr. (LaTilda), Suffolk, Va.; one step great-grandson, Charles Willis of Suffolk, Va.; three faithful, devoted friends, Tom Bell, Suffolk, Va.; Ella Davis, Newport News, Va., and Shirley Watson, Norfolk, Va,; a loyal and devoted caregiver, Charnika Waters, and a host of relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life service will be conducted at noon Monday, November 19, 2012, at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va. Rev. William L. Lang is pastor and officiator.

Services are entrusted to Engram Funeral Home, Franklin, Va.
