FRANKLIN—On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mable Lee, was permitted to go home to rest with the Heavenly Father.

Mable was born in Southampton County to the late Leslie and Carrie Walker Lee on February 18, 1938.

At an early age, she joined White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Usher Board and remained a faithful member until her health failed. She also loved and attended Sunday school on a regular basis.

Her employment history was varied in her determination to provide for her family. She was employed at Hunterdale Country Club, Georgia Pacific Paper Company, NorShipco, Union Camp and Dominion Bank. She was last employed as a custodian at United Methodist Church where she retired in 1995.

Mable loved her family and was a devoted mother not only to her children, but to the many “surrogate children” she became acquainted with through her children and grandchildren. She was affectionately called “Mom” or “Miss Mable” by many.

She loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen cooking soups, vegetables and desserts to deliver to church members, family and friends. She loved the tradition of Sunday dinner with family and began preparations on Saturday night. Chances are that if you knew “Miss Mable, then you have eaten from her table.

She was preceded in death by four sons, Alexander “Richard” Lee, Kenneth “Joe Smooth” Lee, Bennie “Peter” Lee and Joe Amos “Lerk” Lee.

She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Annette Jemison (Jessie), Patricia Lee, and Dolly Picot, all of Courtland, Va., Mary Stephens (William) of Franklin, Va., and Mable Lee of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, Ashley Lee (Dora), Franklin, Va.; one sister, Lessie Hunt, Franklin, Va.; two brothers, Alex Lee (Lorraine) and Bernard Holloway (Diane), both of Franklin, Va.; one sister-in-law, Earline Lee of Franklin, Va.; one uncle, John Lee of New Jersey; one aunt, Lottie Talbert of New Jersey; a special niece, Chiquita Lee, whom she cared for from birth; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Engram Funeral Home on Armory Drive in Franklin.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
