SMITHFIELD—The Virginia School Boards Association has recognized Isle of Wight County Schools for its environmental efforts.
The school district received the Gold Certified Green School Division in the VSBA Green Public Schools Challenge for park clean-up projects, school recycling programs, iPad distribution to replace outdated textbooks, building improvements and school policies surrounding energy conservation.
School districts must amass at least 100 “greenpoints” to be certified as a Green School Division. Isle of Wight earned more than 150 points.
“We are very pleased to be recognized for our green efforts,” said Peter Andreu, director of facilities, maintenance and construction with IOW. “Our students and staff continue to look for new and creative ways to actively improve the environment and reduce cost.”
