BOYKINS—Annie Laura Fowler Sykes, 96, widow of John David Sykes, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Dinwiddie Health and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Sykes was a native of Newsoms, Va., the only daughter of the late George Ryland and Ruby Bunn Fowler, and valedictorian of her Newsoms High School class.

She was a member of Boykins United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir for over 50 years.

She was a homemaker and well known for her baking and needlework.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. John D. Sykes Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Lawrenceville; one granddaughter, Sandra Sykes Wilson and husband, John, of Chesapeake; two great-grandchildren, Trey and Laura Wilson; special friends and caregivers Joyce Bellamy and Nancy Jones; and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Boykins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Baugham officiating.

The burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of Allen Story, 22461 Linden St., Courtland, Va., on Tuesday and suggests that memorial donations be made to Boykins United Methodist Church, 32167 S. Main St., Boykins, Va., 23827.
