FRANKLIN—Irene Denson Whitehead, 70, died peacefully at her home Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.

She was born in Southampton County to the late Doc and Carrie H. Denson.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 27 years, George N. Whitehead Sr.; six daughters, Jeanette Pope (Jesse) of Hampton; Inette Hunter, Tonya Benn, Katherine Boone and Michelle Boone of Franklin; Tennille Whitehead of Petersburg; four sons, James Boone and Curtis Boone (Dorothy) of Franklin; George N. Whitehead Jr. of Canterbury, New Hampshire; Anthony Boone of Hampton; three sisters, Lena Denson and Laura Denson of the Bronx, N.Y.; and Shirley Hunt of Franklin; one brother, William Fred Denson of Franklin; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service of celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at First Baptist Church, 318 Hall Street, Franklin, Va. 23851. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
