Howard G. Swick

DREWRYVILLE—Howard Gordon Swick, 86, passed away Oct. 31, 2012, at Sentara Norfolk General. Mr. Swick was born in Bartlesville, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Tacoma, Wash. He had been a resident of Drewryville for the past five years, residing with his daughter, Carrie, and son-in-law, David Everett.

He was the son of the late Robert Durwood and Bonnie Snyder Swick, and was predeceased by his wife, Violet Ramsdell Spinks Swick who died July 11, 1997, and a son, Ricky Dean Spinks.

Mr. Swick was retired from Ft. Lewis, Wash., as a Logistics Civil Servant and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a former Chaplain of the Tacoma VFW Post, and a member of VFW Post 4411, Franklin, Va. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a Baptist.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Carrie Swick Everett and husband David of Drewryville, Va.; Tracy S. Swick of Bremerton, Wash., William “Bill” B. Spinks of Portland, Ore., Donald L. Spinks and wife Trena of Tacoma, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Cory, Jake, Katie, Chris, David, Joseph and Damian; and many great-grandchildren, including Kylie, Melanie and Kayden of the home; one brother, Col. George E. Swick, USAF, (Ret.) and wife Betty of Alexandria, Va.

A visitation and military honors will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Wright Funeral Home, 206 W. Fourth Ave., Franklin, Va. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Joyner United Methodist Church, Clubhouse Road, Capron, Va., with the Rev. Steve Vornov officiating. A burial service will be held in the Spring at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Tacoma, Wash.
