Kenneth A. Duffy

FRANKLIN—Kenneth Augustus Duffy, 91, passed away October 29, 2012, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Isle of Wight County, a son of the late Walter Hargett and Dora Bobbitt Duffy, and was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Duffy and Dora Duck; and three brothers, William, Walter and George Duffy.

Mr. Duffy was a member of High St. United Methodist Church.

He retired from the mill planning department of Union Camp Corp.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theatre as a sergeant and earned a bronze star.

He was a member of Cypress Cove Country Club, Hunterdale Ruritan Club, American Legion and a regular contributor to charities like Salvation Army, United Way and Chowan University.

An avid golfer, he was the 1958 Cypress Cove Country Club champion.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret D. Houle of Carrsville; six nieces, Sandy Bradshaw (Keith) of Carrsville, Theresa Beale (Robert) of Windsor, Judy Andrews (Charlie) of Petersburg, Katherine Duffy of Roanoke, Francine Russell (Phillip) and Susan Wilson all of Pensacola, Fla.; four nephews, William C. Duffy Jr. (Donna) of Memphis, Michael E. Duffy (Sandy) of Virginia Beach, Greg Duffy (Leslie) and Steve Duffy, all of Pensacola, Fla.; and dear friends Reesa and Pete Parker, Bob and Linda Woulf, and Carol Holland; and a dedicated caregiver, Shirley Reid.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. John Ashley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorial donations be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Franklin, Va., 23851.
