Phyllis B. Drewry

FRANKLIN—Phyllis Babb Drewry passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with cancer at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on May 27, 1943, in Franklin, Va., to the late Gladys Coggsdale Blythe and Clinton Babb.

She was an active member of Franklin Baptist Church where she served as an office assistant for six years and as a childcare provider for many years. Phyllis was a member of the Social Committee and Franklin Baptist Relay for Life team.

Phyllis enjoyed spending time with friends, playing card games, Bingo, Dominoes and bowling. Her greatest pleasure was to make others laugh and smile.

Mrs. Drewry was preceded in death by her 17-year-old daughter, Laura Arlisia Drewry.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Elliott B. Drewry; a daughter, Angela C. Drewry of Franklin and special friend Gary L. Bookman of Emporia; step-grandson, Charles B. Carr IV of Waynesboro; brother, Jimmy Babb of Franklin; four sisters-in-law Eunice D. Blythe, Pearl D. Darden, Hazel L. Drewry, all of Franklin, and Rose D. Whitehead of Smithfield; two brothers-in-law, Aubrey Lankford and Mills (Bob) Edwards, both of Franklin; special family members JoAnne and Joey Hewett; and a host of extended family members and friends.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2012, at Franklin Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
