Happiness is…

Getting one more squeeze of toothpaste.

Watching her from a distance… and falling in love all over again.

A Snickers bar at 10 in the morning.

The scales registering two pounds less.

Walking out on the beach as the sand squishes between your naked toes, the waves sing a song with seagulls as backup and it sinks into your bones that this is the first day of your long awaited vacation.

Balancing your checkbook to the penny.

Getting a warning instead of a ticket.

Making that last payment.

Watching an October sunset and realizing that in all of history there will never be another one exactly like it.

Listening to rain hitting a tin roof in July.

Having someone warm to snuggle up to in February.

The crackling of an open fire.

A good, sound all night sleep.

That new car smell.

Having legs and arms and feet and eyes that work.

Music that takes you away to some far off place.

Gazing up on a starry night and realizing there is someone in this world much bigger than you.

A thousand little things.

Writing the last word in the last sentence in the last paragraph of a column.
