Franklin crushes Charles City 51-12

CHARLES CITY—Travis Brown ran for three touchdowns and quarterback Laquadric Pittman threw for two more to help Franklin to a 51-12 win over Tri-Rivers District opponent Charles City on Friday.

Franklin improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the district.

“They executed well,” said Coach Darren Parker. “We did a great job all-round – coaches, players did their jobs right.”

Franklin rushed for 325 yards and passed for 85 yards. Charles City rushed for 24 years and passed for 60. The Broncos had 20 first downs to Charles City’s 10, yet were penalized 10 times for 95 yards. Charles City was penalized once for five yards.

Marcus Stephens led Franklin in rushing with 116 yards on 13 carries. Brown followed with 107 yards on 10 carries.

Franklin’s Raiquan Wright led the Broncos in tackles with four.

Brown ran the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown.

Charles City’s Avery Jones responded by scoring a 95-yard kickoff return, tying up the game 6-6.

With 9:59 left in the quarter, Brown scored on a four-yard run. He picked up the 2-point conversion.

Six minutes later, Pittman launched a 49-yard touchdown pass to Corey Porter. Pittman scored on the 2-point conversion, giving Franklin a 22-6 lead.

Franklin’s Tyree Jones scored on an 11-yard run with 24 seconds left in the quarter.

Brown scored with 8:07 left in the second quarter. Angel Padilla’s kick was good, putting Franklin ahead 37-6.

Scoring next for Franklin was Terry Warren on a 5-yard run. Padilla picked up the extra point.

With 16 seconds left in the half, Pittman tossed a 36-yard pass to Marcus Stephens. Padilla’s kick was good, giving the Broncos a 51-6 halftime lead.

Jones passed a 13-yard touchdown for the final score of the game.
