ZUNI—A two-mile stretch of eastbound U.S. 460 between Zuni and Tucker Swamp Road will be closed 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in hopes of locating the source of a sinkhole.

A crew with the Virginia Department of Transportation will be excavating the roadway.

Eastbound drivers will be diverted into a westbound lane.

The area has been under observation due to the sinkhole, and a temporary remedy has been in place for about 10 days. During the closure, an analysis will be undertaken for a permanent solution.

The work is will be rescheduled if it rains.
