Windsor, Franklin qualify for tournament

PETERSBURG—Windsor and Franklin during Monday’s Tri-Rivers District golf tournament qualified for the region tournament, which will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, at Hobbs Hole in Essex.
In related matters, Windsor senior Cody Reese was named the district’s Player of the Year.
“I’m very proud of Cody for earning Player of the Year,” said Windsor Coach Broc Smith. “He worked very hard every off-season to improve his game and it shows.”
Windsor won the tournament at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg with a 431. Franklin shot a 457 and Surry, a 460.
Reese took the tournament title with an 88. He was followed by Franklin senior Grant Scarboro and Surry’s Jacob Pitman, both 96; Windsor senior Sean Dejiacomo, 98; and Surry’s Donald Vann and Franklin senior Tevin Sumblin, both 107.
“I think it was a great season for the Tri-Rivers District,” Smith said. “We had quite a lot of new comers to the sport and they all made great improvements as the season went along.”
Named to the All-District Team were Reese, Scarboro, Pitman, Dejiacomo, Sumblin and Windsor junior Kyle Hollowell.
All-Academic team members from Windsor were Reese, Daniel Klausmeier and Hollowell and from Franklin, Scarboro, Sumblin and Chad Benton.
