VIRGINIA BEACH—The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints evened their record to 2-2 with a 28-20 win over host Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach on Saturday.

With the score tied at 20 with two minutes to play, the Crusaders missed an extra point.

Head Coach Lew Johnston then decided to take a shot at the outright win.

“A couple of their good players were injured, so I figured we’d take one shot at the end zone,” he said. “So, Tim (Burns) dropped back from about our own 45 and fired one down the middle. Jared Morse made a great catch at the 20 and ran it in from there with 30 seconds left.”

David Gough ran the ball in for a two-point conversion, and the Saints’ improved defense held Bishop Sullivan at bay to end the game.

Virginia Episcopal School visits the Saints (2-2, 2-0) on Friday, Sept. 28.
