WINDSOR, N.C.—Thomas Clamon “Dick” Lassiter Jr., 79, longtime educator and coach, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012, at the Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Windsor, N.C.

Mr. Lassiter was born in Boykins, Va., a son of the late Thomas Clamon and Susan Edwin Drewry Lassiter, and was also predeceased by his wife, Jean Bunn Lassiter, and son-in-law, John H. Seymour.

A former resident of Franklin, Va., he was a longtime math teacher, football and basketball coach, and assistant principal at Franklin High School, Franklin, Va., and also at Lawrence Academy, Merry Hill, N.C. He retired in 1995.

He was a 1951 graduate of Windsor (NC) High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1952 through 1956 and graduated from Wake Forest College in 1959 with a BS degree in mathematics.

He was a Baptist.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Elizabeth “Beth” Lassiter Seymour of Yale, Va.; a sister, Peggie L. Adkins and her husband, Jim, of Richmond; one brother, Paul T. Lassiter and wife, Barbara of Allentown, Pa.; one uncle, Roy A. Lassiter and wife, Kitty, of Boykins; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Wright Funeral Home, 206 W. Fourth Ave., Franklin, Va., with the Rev. Kevin Niles officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Franklin High School Athletic Department, 310 Crescent Drive, Franklin, Va., 23851, or your favorite charity.
