CHESAPEAKE—Barbara D. Johnson passed away in her home on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

Originally from Franklin, Va., she has been a resident of Chesapeake for over 30 years.

Barbara graduated with honors from Longwood College and began her teaching career at Deep Creek Middle School. She was a member of the Virginia Education Association, an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa-Alpha Espsilon chapter and a founding member of WB Chapter of the JULIET Society.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie R. and Alma B. Duck.

She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Jennifer and grandson, Harley, of Greenville, N.C.; brother, Richard Duck and sister-in-law, Harriet, of Franklin; a “special daughter,” Jennifer Smith of Pittsburgh; many nieces and nephews who loved her; and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 20, at 6 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4320 Bruce Road, Chesapeake, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sentara Hospice Services, 535 Independence Blvd., Suite 200, Chesapeake, Va., 23320; Aldersgate United Methodist Church-Bereavement Committee, 4320 Bruce Road, Chesapeake, 23321; or the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, Va., 23452.
