IOW fair a great deal

The $5 fee to get into the Isle of Wight County Fair in Windsor, which runs through Sunday, Sept. 16, is one heck of a deal.

Anyone who goes Saturday, Sept. 15, can see legendary country artist Tracy Lawrence at no extra cost. He plays on the main stage at 9 p.m.

The same deal holds true for today, Sept. 14, when ninth season American Idol finalist Casey James hits the main stage at 9 p.m. James’ album, which includes the new single “Crying on a Suitcase,” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Album Chart.

Country group Gloriana, who had the hit “Wild at Heart,” will play at 4:30 p.m. Sunday — again for the $5 entry fee. Gloriana received a 2010 ACM Award for Top New Vocal Group.

We urge everyone take advantage of this affordable entertainment. We can’t think of anywhere you can go for a $5 concert featuring big name musicians.

Other activities include monster truck rides, a midway, Robinson’s Racing Pigs, the magic of Lance Gifford, an antique tractor pull, petting zoo, 4-H livestock shows, helicopter rides, a rooster crowing contest, Cornhole, paintball, camel and pony rides, and the Rhythm Project steel drum band.

Sunny skies with 80 degrees are forecast for the fair with a 10 to 20 percent chance of rain.

We also applaud the fair committee for its hard work to host the event.
