NEWSOMS—The U.S. Postal Service has scheduled a meeting for 12:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, to discuss the future of the post office in Newsoms.

The meeting to answer questions and provide information about a plan will be held at the post office at 29174 S. Main St.

Newsoms residents can soon expect a survey in the mail from the Postal Service asking whether they would prefer:

• Reducing the number of hours of service at their post office

• Giving up post office boxes in exchange for rural delivery

• Having a local business offer minimal postal services

• Or closing the post office.

Postal customers will have 14 days to respond.

Management will share results from the survey at the meeting. The Postal Service will not make a decision until after the meeting.

The Postal Service for financial reasons in June proposed making changes at post offices in Boykins, Newsoms, Sedley, Zuni, Carrsville, Isle of Wight, Branchville and Drewryville.
