If you’ve ever wondered what life was like for past generations, then a trip to the Southampton Heritage Village/Agricultural and Forestry Museum in Courtland may be in order for Saturday, Sept. 8.

Heritage Day, which will take place 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include many family-friendly activities that take visitors back in time.

The event will feature an exhibit of local historical artifacts at the Rochelle-Prince House on Main Street as well as typesetting demonstrations on two printing presses, including one from 1885.

Visitors can also watch cornmeal being made from an old-fashioned gristmill. Cornbread made from that mill will be sampled.

Other demonstrations include woodcarving, spinning wool, flint knapping, crocheting and knitting.

In addition, items for sale include painted gourds, baskets, handmade jewelry, hair bows, candles, floral arrangements, books, paintings, painted rock paperweights, needlework, woodwork and antique items.

This event is sponsored by the Southampton County Historical Society.

It’s an inexpensive way to spend the day at $3 for adults, a $1 for school-aged children and free for preschoolers.
