COURTLAND—Two people were taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital after the driver of a compact car pulled into the path of another motorist, whose car was then hit by the driver of a tractor-trailer, Virginia State Police said.
Lynn Watson, 59, of Boykins was treated and released after the 7:30 a.m. crash on Route 35 near the entrance to Southampton County Middle and High schools. The other driver, a 17-year-old Franklin girl, was expected to be treated and released, said Trooper Jared Vance. Vance would not release her name because she is a juvenile.
The 17-year-old drove her Honda Civic from Ridley Road into the path of Watson’s Ford Escort, Vance said. Watson was northbound on Route 35.
The impact caused Watson’s car to cross into the opposite lane and into the path of the tractor-trailer driven by Lewis Bolden, 55, of Waverly. The impact spun Watson’s car.
Bolden was not hurt.
The 17-year-old was cited with failure to yield, Vance said.
