Mother Bernice G. Scott

Mother Bernice G. Scott of Hogart Street, Franklin, Va., departed this life September 3, 2012, while resting peacefully in her home.
The Newport News, Va., native was born December 4, 1921, to Matthew and Rosa L. McClenney.
She attended the public schools of Newport News and Courtland, Va.
In 1939, Mother Scott married Bishop Clinton Scott. She was a member of Scott’s Revival Center where she was First Lady, Mother of the church and served over 40 years as the church organist.
Mother Scott was a devoted wife and mother. She reared her 11 children with high standards of morals and excellence. She dedicated a great amount of time nurturing her children’s musical abilities that provided the foundation for them to form a gospel assemble “The Scott Singers.”
Mother Scott was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Sarah Lee.
She is survived by her 11 children, Joyce Beamer, Mazina S. Porter (Rodger), Bishop C.B. Scott (Linda), Jeannie Square (Johnny), Timothy Scott (Stella), Randolph Scott, Willie Herbert Scott (Christine), Evelyn S. Square (Ernest), Ginger Scott-Spratley, Jerry Scott (Shulyer) and Terry Scott (Terry); three sisters, Ann Elizabeth, Annie and Eva; three brothers, Percell, Joseph and Alvesta; 41 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration honoring her legacy will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Apostolic Faith Church of God, 680 Oak Street, Franklin, Va.
The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.
