John Graden ‘Grady’ Britt

FRANKLIN—John Graden “Grady” Britt, 79, former Chief of Police for the City of Franklin from 1980-1990, passed away August 29, 2012.
He was born in Bladen County, N.C., a son of the late Carey Britt and Gladys Britt Dowless and was predeceased by three sisters and a brother.
Grady was an Army veteran, a graduate of Paul D. Camp Community College, the FBI Academy, Quantico, Va., and was an officer for 30 years with the Franklin Police Department.
He was a 50-year member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #151 AF&AM and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Davis Britt; two daughters, Sherry Britt Wilson and Katharine H. Britt; four sons, John G. Britt Jr., Michael L. Britt, Joel Jacob Britt (Nichole) and John Landon Britt; six grandchildren, Jack Britt, Caleb Wilson, Ted Britt, Billy Britt, Jameson Britt and Cailin Britt; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012, in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump officiating.
