Harry Elton Raiford

IVOR—Harry Elton Raiford, 81, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012.

A native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late W. Fred and Elma Lowe Raiford.

Elton was a birthright member of Corinth Friends Meeting where he was very active and served as trustee for many years and on the finance committee.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Elton was a farmer for many years and a retired farm manager from Carrolls Foods.

He was a 25-year member of the Ivor Masonic Lodge No. 291, and a former member of the Ivor Ruritan Club for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy West Raiford; two sisters, Jean R. Seely and Joyce R. Uzzell and her husband, Jesse; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Alice W. Scott; numerous great nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Shot.

The family would like to thank the special caregivers from Home Sweet Home, Rita, Geri and Elaine.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel, 11414 General Mahone Highway, Wakefield, Va., 23888.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012, at 11 at the Corinth Friends Meeting in Ivor with Pastor Amanda Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ivor Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
