WAKEFIELD—The Rev. Eric “Ricky” Carver Johnson Sr. died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Gilfield Baptist Church in Ivor, Va. Burial will be in Davis-Johnson Family Cemetery, Wakefield.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at Gilfield Baptist Church.

A Southampton County native, he was founder and pastor of Calvary Life Church in Wakefield, where he served until his death. Mr. Johnson was a master shipbuilder at Huntington Ingalls for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Doretha Smith Johnson; a son, Eric Johnson Jr. of Petersburg; a daughter, Wanda Smith-Butcher of Fayetteville, N.C.; a brother, William “Billy” Johnson; and sisters, Shirley Robertson, Mildred Turner and Rose Smith.

Crocker Funeral Home in Suffolk is handling arrangements.
