SALISBURY, N.C.—The Food Lion stores in Franklin and Courtland were not affected by Friday’s recall on cantaloupes, a company spokeswoman said.

A North Carolina produce supplier recalled the Athena cantaloupes because they may contain listeria monocytogenes, a food-borne pathogen that can result in death, according to a news release from Food Lion. Virginia had 45 stores affected by the recall.

Burch Equipment sold the cantaloupes to Food Lion and Reid’s. No confirmed illnesses have been associated with the recall, according to Burch.

Both grocery chains removed all Athena cantaloupes from shelves. If stickered, the label reads “Cantaloupe PLU 4319.”

The recall affected 463 Food Lion stores, including 234 in North Carolina, 129 in South Carolina, 32 in Tennessee, 27 in Georgia, four in West Virginia and three in Kentucky.
