BRANCHVILLE—The cause of a July 18 fire that destroyed a home on Clarksbury Road, Branchville, has been ruled undetermined, said Major Gene Drewery with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

“That particular structure was burnt to a point that there was not enough left to determine a cause,” Drewery said.

The ruling is used if a cause has not been determined, or there is insufficient evidence or witnesses to determine cause, he said.

Firefighters were called at 11:30 a.m. to the home. The blaze was fully involved when firefighters arrived and they were on scene for 5½ hours.

It’s believed one person lived at the home, which was owned by someone in Richmond.
