Charlotte Hiltner Rainey

FRANKLIN—Charlotte Hiltner Rainey, 90, passed away July 21, 2012, at the East Pavilion.

She was born in Suffolk, Va., on August 26, 1921, and has resided in Franklin, Va., since 1947.

Charlotte was a daughter of the late Blanche H. Smith and John M. Hiltner and was the widow of John Evans Rainey.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Charlotte Anne Rainey Scott; a brother; and two sisters.

Charlotte was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church for over 50 years where she was a past Deaconess, Visitation Committee Chairman and a member of the Women’s Fellowship.

She loved her yard and flowers and feeding the birds and squirrels.

Charlotte dearly loved her cat and constant companion, Pumpkin.

Charlotte is survived by her two beloved granddaughters and their families, Dr. Stacey Y. Scott and her husband, Marshall L. Swink, of Franklin, Va., and Suzanne Scott Duck and her husband, Thomas Anderson Duck, of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and two great-grandsons, Parker and Ethan Duck. She also leaves behind other special family members, former son-in-law, Emmett M. “Buck” Scott Jr. and his wife, Dolores Scott of Buxton, N.C.; and nieces, Cindy Thomason and Patsy Joyner as well as other nephews and a niece.

Charlotte had many close friends and neighbors who were very dear to her.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Randy Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 23, 2012, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. and suggests memorials be made to Hunterdale Christian Church. www.wrightfuneralhome.org. H
