SMITHFIELD—Smithfield Foods has opened a new restaurant offering its specialty pork products and other gourmet food brands.

The Taste of Smithfield at 217 Main St. is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

“We’re very excited about our new venture because we think it will help attract more visitors to our historic town, along with giving us a showplace for our products,” said C. Larry Pope, president and chief executive officer for Smithfield Foods.

The restaurant shares its 8,700-square-foot space with The Genuine Smithfield Ham Shoppe.

A grand opening celebration held July 10 featured samples of Smithfield country ham and Virginia peanuts.
