Annie O. Wiggins

FRANKLIN—Mrs. Annie O. Wiggins of Virginia Street, Franklin, Va., departed this life on July 13, 2012.

She was born September 18, 1935, to Leondris and Leona Mae Wiggins Baker in Nansemond County, Va.

Annie attended and graduated from Nansemond County Training School. To further her education, she graduated from Paul D. Camp Community College.

In 1995, Annie retired from the Franklin Public School System where she worked more than 20 years. She was a teacher’s aide at J.P. King Elementary School.

Annie was a member of Mount Olive Holiness Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Usher Board.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Murphy and Catherine Hatch; three brothers, Nathaniel Baker, Clarence Baker and James Baker; and one grandchild, Renarda Claude.

She is survived by her husband, Freddie Wiggins, Franklin, Va.; one daughter, Crystal Cowans, Courtland, Va.; one son, Arthur Wiggins, Greensboro, N.C.; a granddaughter reared as a daughter, Shantaye Phillips (Armand), Courtland, Va.; one Goddaughter, Vivian Stevens-Lyons (David), Hampton, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Holden, Franklin, Va., and Geraldine Flood, Suffolk, Va; two brothers, Henry Baker and Olander Baker, Franklin, Va.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one aunt, Mary Bethea, Greensboro, N.C.; nieces; a niece Loretha Ricks whom she was instrumental in rearing; nephews; and cousins.

 

A homegoing celebration will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at 2 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 415 Stonewall St.t, Franklin, Va., with Elder C.S. Ricks delivering the message of comfort; Bishop D. Stefán Adams Sr. is the pastor.

The interment is in Southview Cemetery.
