Barbara Ann Brantley Edwards

ZUNI—Barbara Ann Brantley Edwards, age 72, of Zuni, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at Lake Prince Woods.
She was born on September 1, 1939, in Suffolk, Va., the daughter of the late Joseph Edward Brantley and Evelyn Burchett Brantley.
Barbara was a 1961 graduate of Longwood College.
She was a retired public school teacher, having taught high school Health and Physical Education from 1961-1966.
She was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and had formerly been a member of the Suffolk Christian Church and Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.
An avid tennis player, Barbara was Virginia State Junior Champion in singles and doubles in 1957. She was a member of the Suffolk Tennis Association, treasurer of the Hunterdale Elementary School PTA, served on the Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee for Special Education in Franklin, Va., served on the Woman’s Advisory Committee of Southern States Cooperative and was a member of the Board of Directors for Franklin YMCA.
Barbara was formerly a member of Cypress Cove County Club, Southampton County Historical Society, and life member of American Philatelic Society.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Hoen McGuire “Mac” Edwards; a daughter, Audra Louise Edwards of Franklin; a son, Joseph McGuire Edwards of Zuni; and grandchildren, Donald Thomas Blythe Jr. and Alexander Christian Blythe; and a brother, William B. Brantley Sr. of Tacoma, Wash.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Franklin with the Rev. Dr. Steven R. Gibson officiating.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 3 p.m. at Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk, led by Rev. Dr. Woodie Rea and Rev. Dr. Steven R. Gibson.
