Roscoe L. DeBerry Sr.

BOYKINS—Mr. Roscoe L. DeBerry Sr. of Number 8 Schoolhouse Road, Boykins, Va., departed this life on July 7, 2012, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 3, 1922, to the late Brantley and Celeste Reid DeBerry in Southampton County, Va.

In 1995, Roscoe retired from farming to care for his wife, Elizabeth, who became ill.

He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Senior Choir and a member of the Missionary Society.

Roscoe gave to his community and served as a trooper leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

During World War II. he served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth W. DeBerry, Boykins, Va.; two daughters, Lois E. Nance (Harold), Raleigh, N.C., and Virginia Woodard (Alonzo), Smithfield, Va; four sons, Roscoe L. DeBerry Jr. (Diane), Boykins, Va, James C. DeBerry (Joyce), Capron, Va., Wayne (Cheryl) of Leesburg, Va., Jesse DeBerry (Hannah), Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Kermit DeBerry (Jean) and Ralph DeBerry (Dora), Philadelphia, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; a cousin who is recognized as a brother, Donald Davis (Irene), Boykins, Va.; and many other relatives.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 30188 Shiloh Road, Boykins, Va., with the pastor, Reverend Curtis Mitchell delivering the message of comfort.

Committal, benediction and military honors will be in the church cemetery.
