FRANKLIN—John Oliver “J.J.” Wood Jr., 83, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Born in Holland, he was a son of the late John O. Wood Sr. and Mildred Ann Holland Wood and was predeceased by a brother, Glenn H. Wood.

Mr. Wood was a retired maintenance foreman at Union Camp Corp., an active member of Sycamore Baptist Church, where he had served in various capacities, and a member of Hunterdale Ruritan Club, where he was a past Chaplain.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Carrie Lee “Billie” Joyner Wood; sons, Larry Wood and wife, Fran, of Courtland and Jeffrey Wood and wife, Susan, of Franklin; two sisters, Patsy W. Price and husband, Charles, of Holland and Sue W. Powell and husband, James, of Suffolk; two brothers, Rev. Tom Wood and wife, Margie, of Portsmouth and Don Wood and wife, Ruth, of Holland; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Wright Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Crump officiating.

Burial will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and suggests memorials be made to Sycamore Baptist Church or any favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
