SEDLEY—Two Southampton County men are facing charges for allegedly stealing a box truck between 6 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday from Dixie Plant Farm on Sedley Road, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Derrick Burton, 39, of Capron and Lloyd Edward Hairston, 54, of Courtland allegedly headed to South Hill, where they attempted to steal a mower from Home Depot, the sheriff’s office reported. South Hill Police caught the pair and recovered the truck.

The investigation is continuing.

“It’s snowballing into more than South Hill and our jurisdiction,” said Major Gene Drewery with the Sheriff’s Office. “I believe Emporia has some stuff (on them), too.”
